About: Polly Wilson
Polly is a Contemporary Indigenous Emerging Artist working with mixed media. Her mother was a Ngemba Weilwan woman from Western NSW and Polly is a proud Gamilarol Wellwan woman. She was born and raised on Gamilaroi Country, North West NSW, along with her brother. She was raised in the small town of Wee Waa and currently lives in WA, and following her art journey.
She paints to deepen her connection to her culture and to release thoughts that words cannot convey. She has had an inner calling to paint for quite sometime but never really had the courage.
Through the general course of life’s tragedies and struggles, she desperately needed an outlet for these intense emotions and stresses, so she finally asked her cousin to show her where to start her art journey and since that day she hasn’t stopped. She has developed her own contemporary style of painting, with a cosmic twist. Her cousin helped her unearth something deep inside her that has helped her connect not only with her culture but also with herself. Art has been the therapy that her spirit needed.
Polly paints using a contempory take on traditional art, channelled from her ancestors, and her personal experiences and life lessons.
She is a mum of four beautiful kids, 2 girls and 2 boys, who are the driving force for her to keep moving forward and to teach them never to give up. Polly says: “No matter how many dark days are ahead, there is always a light on, you just have to want to find it”.
