John Mizzi established Mizzi’s in 2019, carrying on a tradition of artisanal salt from his ancestors on Gozo, Malta.

Initially, John developed gourmet salt products from the ancient desert seas at Doodlakine, a small town in the wheatbelt region of Western Australia (WA). Desert sea salt is produced using the natural advantages of the WA climate – the heat from the sun and very low humidity. And, compared to industrially produced salt, Mizzi’s salt has a small environmental footprint, is lower in pollutants and contains no microplastics. It is, however, much richer in micronutrients such as magnesium and calcium than sea salt and is harvested to ensure the maximum flavour of a gourmet salt. You can read about John’s salt harvesting process and the benefits of desert salt on his website.

In addition to his salt products, John has explored the health benefits of magnesium chloride gathered from the salt deposits and developed an arthritis treatment, Mizzi’s Pure Magnesium Jelly, and an organic skin treatment range including natural soaps, face masks and salt scrubs.

I understand that, although not available for sale, the salt has also been used to make tofu and ricotta cheese. A truly versatile product John!

John is very much aware that local support is essential to the success of his business. He has opened the Baandee Springs Mineral Rich Floating Mud Pools so we can all experience the benefits of the soft kaolin clay, a centuries old treatment to rejuvenate the skin.

This will be my last blog for 2021. It has been a pleasure bringing you up to date with our progress and promoting our fabulous Gifter Artisans. Between us, we have managed to send a significant donation to Ability Fair Trade Village in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This is a fantastic achievement for the short time we have been operating, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart xx.

Jenni and I hope you have wonderful break over the festive season and that 2022 brings you all you desire (a cure for COVID and its variants is top of my list!).
